Versions of different songs

I have been thinking about this since Joe McElderry brought out the single ‘The Climb’ last year for Christmas after winning the X Factor but to be honest, Miley Cyrus’ version was much better. She really has an amazing voice and her gravely tones and southern twang really gets you into the zone of the song. Joe is cute and lovely and adorable but the climb didn’t work for him, it wasn’t believable. He should have stuck to the musical ballads like ‘Circle of life’ or the ballad ‘Dance with my father’ which suited him much better. I guess it doesn’t really matter as he didn’t reach number 1 with ‘The Climb’ because of the massive success of the facebook campaign that propelled Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name’ to the number 1 spot instead!

Why don’t you love me?

Have you seen the video for Beyonce’s new single ‘Why don’t you love me’? It’s amazing! It makes me want to put on my finest lingerie including stockings and suspenders, get a martini down me and set about cleaning my house in a pair of 8 inch heels whilst wearing every piece of jewellery I own! What an empowering song and video and it’s something every woman should listen to if she’s going through some kind of troublesome time with her man. Music is brilliant for prompting emotion and this songs last line ‘Maybe you’re not the one, or maybe you’re just plain… dumb!’ is genius.

Stand out albums

Once in a while there is an album that comes out that really blows your mind and sets the artist apart from the rest. I was impressed when Florence and the Machine brought out their album Lungs as each and every song on the album was brilliant in its own way. Currently I am listening to Ellie Goulding’s album Lights which has impressed me further. I loved Starry Eyed when I first heard it on the radio and now cannot bear to take it off when i’m out and about in my car. Track 5 is titled ‘The Writer’ and it really is an amazing song. Also, the introduction to track 7 ‘Wish I stayed’ gives me goose bumps. Hats off to you Ellie, looking forward to the next album.

Film compilation CD’s

Soundtracks to films are the best themed compilations in my opinion because you’ve got a genre and songs that provide a similar sort of feeling or run in the same sort of topic which allows you to get a whole album of relevant and interesting songs to suit your mood. If it’s for a film such as Bridget Jones’ Diary, you know the songs will be feel good and romantic because they are linked to a romantic comedy. If you get the soundtrack to a film such as the crow, you’ll get dramatic and intense music which will help you feel the emotion of the film, or if you get the soundtrack to a musical such as Chicago or Les Miserable’s you’re bound to be filled with dramatic feelings. Ooh, the power of music!

You can forget about dance music

I’m going to start off this blog post with a half @rsed apology to the site’s many regular users – the previous writer of this blog preferred nothing better than to buy the latest NOW album and club anthem compilations, ranting on about the latest tunes, blah, blah, blah. However, this is all about to stop.

I don’t particularly like dance music and so will not be writing about it. You will still be able to find out where to buy the cheapest MP3s for your player, but won’t get any interesting facts about how great it is to annoy your neighbours with the repetitive artificial drone of the Ministry of Sound collection coming through the walls, slapping around the locals after a big night out in Ibiza or being off your head in a club full of idiots where everyone has lost the capacity to speak.

A change is on the horizon. The rock music mogul is here.

New mp3 releases to look out for

January is always a notoriously quiet month for new music releases, although now we’re well into February we can start to look forward to some decent music!

And there are some fab releases to look forward to in the not too distant future.

A great place to find out about loads of new and upcoming releases is Radio 1, who’s playlist is always bang up to date.

So whatever your musical tastes, you’ll be able to update your iPod, phone or mp3 player with some great new tunes this spring.

p.s. anyone who has, or is thinking of downloading the new Jedward single should hang their head in absolute shame!

Downloads to get you in the mood to party

There’s nothing like getting ready for a night out with the girls on a Saturday night. Glass of wine in one hand and the iPod turned to full volume is the best way of getting ready to party in style.

When I’m getting ready I love listening to dance tracks- there’s nothing like listening to slow and depressing songs to put you on a proper downer for the night.

Ministry of Sound’s Running Trax is a wicked 3 CD album full of classic dance anthems that you’re likely to hear on a night on the tiles.

Funky House Classics is another album that will bring back memories of drunken nights on the town.

So turn up those tunes and get ready to dance round your handbag!!

Download and do your bit for the Haiti earthquake victims

If there’s one song that you need to download this year, it’s the Haiti earthquake appeal song, ‘Everybody Hurts’.

haiti

Masterminded by Simon Cowell, the song is available to download now, and all proceeds of course go to the victims of the terrible disaster.

Sat at our computers in our warm homes, it’s all too easy to forget what’s happening on the other side of the world.

The single features a host of chart toppers, including Leona Lewis, Akon, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, Susan Boyle, Cheryl Cole, Rod Stewart and Kylie Minogue.

Do your bit for charity and download this fantastic song now. But be warned- the video is a true tear jerker.

Alicia Keys- The Element of Freedom- a must have for your mp3

I have loved Alicia Keys ever since her debut single ‘Fallin’, and her 2001 album ‘Songs in A Minor’ was on repeat in my room for months on end. Having to wait 8 years for another album was a test, but well worth the wait.
alicia-keys

The Element of Freedom has been on repeat on my mp3 player for weeks now, and I’m still not getting bored of it. There’s no doubt that this album rivals her debut offering, and the tracks are simply amazing.

I’ve heard many people banging on about stand out track ‘This Bed’, and it’s not hard to see why.

This is Alicia back to her best, and she definitely gives Beyonce and Rihanna more than a run for their money when it comes to the title of rnb queen!
